Running your own life can be stressful enough between work, family, making time for friends and alone time. Adding in another full time career that demands a lot of your attention and your heart and soul, well, that is another level on its own. There are times when you’ll feel overwhelmed but we are going to help you handle dealing with the stress of running your own music career.
Just like with everything else in your life, try not to take on too much at one time. Time management should become your best friend. We think it’s great that you want to take over the music world, and yes it does require a lot of time and energy, but take smart steps so you don’t get stressed out. Set realist goals for yourself. If you’re making a goal of playing Madison Square Garden in the next two months, you are probably over reaching by a long shot. Remember the small things that make up the larger picture.
Make sure you are educated on what you’re getting yourself into. If you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing, the smallest thing will start to stress you out. Think of your first day of a new job or your first day of school. You’re kind of making things up as you go along until you realize what your supposed to be doing. Then it just becomes second nature. If you’re tackling the PR of your career, focus on that. Read about it. Research everything you possibly can. The internet is at your fingertips. Take control back by learning what you’re doing. You won’t be stressed out if it is second nature to you.
Get organized and take care of yourself. Buy yourself a nice planner and a calendar. Sometimes it is less stressful if you can actually see what you have to be doing or where you need to be rather than thinking of all of these dates in your head. If you take care of yourself by eating right, exercising and getting enough sleep, it is easier to battle life stress because you are physically stable. If you start letting your body get run down, it will make your stress feel much worse than it is.
