You got booked at the hottest venue in town. You just played an awesome set. The crowd was into your music and you got a great response. So, how do you make sure you get booked again? How do you make yourself stand out to the booking agent when they see so many different bands every single night? We will give you some tips that will help get you that gig again.
Make sure to thank your fans. Take the time while the last notes are ringing out to truly thank the people still standing in the crowd for staying until the end. When you are done packing up your gear, be sure to go around and mingle with the people who listened to you. This will allow you to gain new fans as well. Everyone likes to be appreciated.
Speaking of packing up your gear, think of everything that you have on stage with you. Pick up your empty drink bottles, your set lists and any tape you placed down. Make sure you leave the stage exactly the way you found it. Remember, someone has to stay late to clean up after you if you don’t. Simple enough, right?
Get your gear packed up and out of the way as quickly as you can. The soundman will need to get his stuff loaded up (provided it’s not house sound) and you are in his way. If it’s not too crowded take your gear directly to your cars. If there is still a big crowd preventing you from getting things out the door, move your equipment to the side and out of the way. Keep an eye on it at all times, though. It’s super easy for someone to grab a guitar case as they’re walking out the door without you knowing it.
Pay it forward. Help out the bar staff. While on stage in between songs, make mention to grab a drink from the bar and to tip the bar tenders. They are living on tips, it’s nice to get a little push from the band to get the crowd their way. At the end of the night, throw a little tip of your own to the servers. Odds are you got a free drink or two, so take care of them.
It’s simple enough to get booked again. Just take care of the people that allow you to do what you love to do.
