It’s that time of year again when we figure out how we are going to make ourselves better in the new year. It is when we set the bar high for ourselves to accomplish all of the things we feel we need to do. It is a new beginning and with a music career, we should look at it as the same way. We have some resolutions that you should make as a musician moving into 2015.
The most successful musicians came into their position by understand how their investments, their money and their networking actually work. Educate yourself in these areas of the business if you aren’t already knowledgeable about it. It is important to understand how the music industry actually works.
You need to get out there and play more. Try getting yourself into opening slots for bigger bands if you can. This will open you up to a whole new playing level. Live shows are where musicians make most of their money from these days. It also opens the door to a lot of different opportunities by getting your name out there.
We can’t stress to you how important networking is. Make that one of your main focuses going into 2015. Go out of your way to say hello to everyone in the club that you are playing at. You never know who is who or who knows someone. The more people you know, the better it is for you as a musician or a band.
Don’t be afraid to take risks. If you are thinking about going on tour, just do it. Figure out how to make it work. Even if you go on a mini tour, do it. What do you have to lose?
Release more music to your fans. Share something you’re working on at practice with your band. Record a new version of an old song and post it to your fans. Keep them wanting more by giving them more of your music. You want to stay fresh in the eyes of your fans.
We wish you a successful 2015 and the years to come!
