    Staying Healthy On Tour

    Congratulations on booking your tour! Now it’s time to make sure that you keep yourself healthy while you’re on the road. Living in a tour bus can take a toll on you. You want to stay on top of your game that way you can play every show 100%.

     If you’re traveling with two or more people, be sure to switch drivers every two or three hours. That’s a long enough shift to make some distance, but short enough to let everyone stretch and use the bathroom before it gets to be an emergency. Plus, you don’t want a tired person behind the wheel. If you are traveling alone, still be sure to pull over every few hours to stretch out.

    There can be plenty to celebrate on tour. Don’t forget, though, that you’re also doing a job. Sure, sometimes partying and networking is part of that job. But it doesn’t mean you have to get blitzed every single night. You will end up running your body into the ground. That is the last thing you want. You don’t want to have to cancel a gig because you’re too sick to function. Party smart.

    Yes, your band is your family, but like any family you will get sick of each other. Make sure you find some alone time. This will give you peace of mind. Tour buses and card can get cramped. The last thing you want to do is punch your guitarist in the face simply because you are sick of looking at them. You time is important when you’re on the road. It’s not always the easiest thing to obtain, but be sure to find that time.

    The obvious, eating. Yes, fast food places are cheap to fill up the stomachs of an entire band, but you will absolutely start to feel that taking a toll on your body after a few days. Pack food in a cooler if you have to. Healthy snacks are always a better option over $1 hamburger and French fries. You will have much more energy to rock out on stage if you feed your body right.

    When you do finally slow down and get to your hotel rooms, make sure you get enough sleep. This isn’t rocket science. Lack of sleep can cause all of the above to lead down the wrong road. When you’re tired you are aggravated as it is, it’s harder for you to pay attention to the road when it’s your turn to drive and you tend to eat crap when you’re lacking sleep.  Get in your beauty rest!

    That’s pretty much it in a nut shell. Make sure you take care of yourself while you’re out dominating the world!
